Steven R. Federman Named Professional of the Year in Higher Education
Steven Federman hopes to better understand how the physical environment in the interstellar medium effects star formation
TOLEDO, OHIO, December 7, 2011 /Journalism and Writing PR News/ -- Steven R. Federman, Professor of Astronomy at The University of Toledo, has been named a Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Higher Education. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
With 25 years of professional experience, Dr. Federman attributes his success to the support he receives from his mentors. As a professor of astronomy, he is responsible for conducting research with colleagues, students and post-doctoral fellows on atomic and molecular processes, teaching one to two courses and is an editor for The Astrophysical Journal. He collaborates with many astronomers in the United States and around the world including David Lambert, the current director of McDonald Observatory. Through his research, he hopes to better understand how the physical environment in the interstellar medium affects star formation.
Dr. Federman received a Ph.D. in physics in 1979 and a master's degree in physics in 1976, both from New York University. In 1971, he received a Bachelor of Science in physics from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, now Polytechnic Institute of New York University. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and a member of the American Astronomical Society and International Astronomical Union.
