Susan L. Shevlin Recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Education
Ms. Shevlin has been selected as a VIP Member for 2011-2012
LAS VEGAS, NV, October 06, 2011 /Journalism and Writing PR News/ -- Susan Shevlin, Literacy Specialist for Clark County School District, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in education.
As a literacy specialist for Clark County School District, a position she has held for 12 years, Ms. Shevlin coaches and mentors teachers in reading and language arts education, utilizing various programs to help elementary school children develop their writing and reading skills. She attributes her success to the support of her parents and her mentors, as well as all of the school administrators she has worked for throughout the years. She became involved in her profession because she loves teaching children and watching them grow as individuals. She has received various awards and recognition during her 28-year career, but has found that her proudest moments as an educator have come when former students returned to thank her.
Ms. Shevlin earned a Master of Arts in teaching from Grand Canyon University in 2000, having received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1970. In addition to her formal education, she holds a Write from the Beginning Trainer Certification + Thinking Maps Trainer from Thinking Maps, Inc. In 2003, Ms. Shevlin was designated as a Distinguished Star for the Southwest Region, and in 2001 she received a Teacher of the Year Award from Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. She holds memberships to the Southern Nevada Reading Council, ACSD, and International Reading Association, and is an adjunct faculty member in the teacher education department of Sierra Nevada College. In the future, she hopes to teach at the university level and continue running Cocoavisions, her chocolate business.
