Jocelyn K. Mushala reflects on her years in the United States Army through poetry
Washington, D.C., April 13, 2010 /Journalism and Writing PR News/ -- Jocelyn K. Mushala. Author, Owner of Nshala, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in the human services industry.
As an author and the owner of Nshala, Ms. Mushala specializes in human services, specifically in the promotion of mental health and wellness. By counseling, mentoring, and educating individuals, an awareness of healthy mental wellness is created. Her interest in counseling allowed her to publish a compilation of expressions that are intended to show the fragility of one's mind and the importance of recognizing the significance of building and maintaining healthy mental lifestyles. In addition, she formed an organization for girls, Sisters in Progress, that provides mentoring, life skills education, and community service involvement-all an extension of positive mental wellbeing.
Ms. Mushala was a Reservist in the United States Army and retired with the rank of Sergeant First Class in January 2009. During her time in the Army, she was deployed to Operations Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia, Provide Comfort in Turkey and Iraqi Freedom. In Iraq she wrote poetry and as a result, compiled and published the book "The Issue is in the Poem" in 2009. It provides accounts of veterans' experiences in Iraq. Prior to her service in the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), Ms. Mushala taught Secondary Health and Physical Education to 9th-12th grade students during which time she realized that many girls would benefit from counseling. Currently, she works in a Department of Defense organization providing human resources support and continues to support GWOT operations.
Presently, pursuing her Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Walden University, Ms. Mushala received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Howard University in 1990. A member of the American Counselors Association, American Mental Health Counselors Association, Authors' Collective, YoungLives: Mentoring Teen Moms Program, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars, she attributes her success to her father's inspiration and insistence on education, and her experience in the military. In the future, she intends to become a mental health counselor, establish her own practice and provide counseling to fellow veterans and teenage girls, specifically; and all who desire healthier lifestyles.
