Martin L. Cahn Honored for Accomplishments in Journalism
Martin L. Cahn celebrates five years as Associate Editor for the Chronicle-Independent
CAMDEN, SC, January 13, 2010 /Journalism and Writing PR News/ --Martin L. Cahn, Associate Editor for the Chronicle-Independent, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of journalism.
Driven by a love of broadcasting and communications, Martin L. Cahn became involved in journalism nearly a decade ago. Having initially begun his career in radio in 1980, he made the transition to print journalism in 2000 when he joined the South Carolina-based Chronicle-Independent as a staff reporter. Now associate editor, Mr. Cahn utilizes his expertise to cover local city growth and perseveration, crime and healthcare. On a daily basis, he is tasked with managing newsroom activities, assisting the editor and preparing content for the publication. Mr. Cahn has an intimate connection with his community and as such, is able to cover stories that generate substantial local interest. He is recognized for his ability to work with his fellow staff and makes every effort to guide fledgling reporters. Mr. Cahn maintains that in the field of editing and publication, it is important to support journalists rather than to criticize their work.
A decorated award winner, Mr. Cahn has been honored with a number of distinctions throughout his career. The South Carolina Press Association awarded him Third Place in Beat Reporting and Second Place in Business Reporting in 2007 as well as First Place in Spot News Reporting and Third Place in Health Reporting in 2006. Mr. Cahn placed second for a series of articles in 2005 and was awarded First Place in Business Reporting and Third Place in Enterprise Reporting in 2004. The South Carolina Press Association also awarded him First Place for Enterprise Story in 2003 and third place for a series of news articles in 2002. The American Legion honored Mr. Cahn with a journalism award in 2002 and he was the recipient of the Excellence in Journalism Award as well as the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Award.
Mr. Cahn holds a master's degree in organizational communication and a bachelor's degree in broadcast communication from the University of Memphis, earned in 1990 and 1987 respectively. He maintains affiliations with the South Carolina Press Association and the Society of Professional Journalists.
