Dr. Lea Wakeman Inducted into Cambridge Who's
Dr. Lea Wakeman's Chinese translation of Giordano Bruno's Candelaio was published in 1998 in Beijing
LAKE OSWEGO, OR, July 28, 2009 /Journalism and Writing PR News/ -- Dr. Lea Wakeman, Visiting Professor for Portland State University has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of higher education.
Dr. Wakeman has 20 years of professional experience in literature criticism, non-fiction creative writing, Italian and Chinese comparative literature studies, translation of classics, editing, coordinating international cultural projects, reviewing scholarships. Her Chinese translation of Giordano Bruno's Candelaio, published in 1998 in Beijing, is the first non Western language translation of this Italian Renaissance enigmatic play. She worked in the international affairs department at the central government of China in the 1980s. She is the chief editor for the newly released English and Chinese versions of Telling Chinese History - A Selection of Essays, by her late husband Frederic E. Wakeman Jr. She also works as the chief editor for the Classics by Contemporary Masters series at the Oriental Press in Beijing, and attributes her achievements to her multicultural and interdisciplinary background. In 1997, Dr. Wakeman received her Ph.D. in Italian Literature with a minor in Chinese Literature from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
